Hey I'm new to the level design community in general

Hey guys, as the title says I am new to the mapping community. The main reason for this is I've had (MANY) glitches with the SDK program provided for half life/counterstrike players, one of which is that I simply can not get the maps to work when I'm making a Counter Strike level. Naturally I was turned off a bit from it. I wish to learn as much as I possibly can, and even become skilled in mapping, but I would not expect anybody to hold my hand, i'd only post the glitches I've been getting so someone can recognize it (which is all I really need to post) but I'll end up posting that on the SDK website not here as not to bug anyone, or as I said before get people to hold my hand. I found this site by seeing, in a Civil protection video "Morning Patrol" Vecima's name credited in the annotations for the mapwork, I was curious as the map had struck me every time I watched it. I even Used a screenshot of the map to get a building design down. Contacting Vecima on the SDK site I found I was the first to contact him about the video. He sent me here, and I'm happy to join, and even advertise it, among whatever skilled mapper I can find I don't think the demoigraphic of this site is to help bad mappers, rather for more adept mappers. Regardless I'm glad to help any way I can and in the meantime try to get mapping down.

Haha you say that now, but youll soon realize teaching Newbies is a pain in the ***, this is true for most things. Some people adopt the whole master and apprentice mentality, but it's not often.

Re: Hey I'm new to the level design community in general

Welcome ArEsTus, glad you made it! Really, feel free to ask any questions. We're not averse to noobs around here. Look at it like this, there are tutorials that cover just about all of the basics. If you ask a question that's about the basics, we'll probably point you to a tutorial to try. Then if you have more questions or problems following it, we'll be here to help. This really is a helpful community, and we aren't the type to flame people for not knowing things. In fact I won't stand for that sort of thing.

As for the map in the episode of civil protection, Nicadeamas really deserves more credit than me. He took a city style map that I made (that he also helped make) and re-arranged it, as well as adding plenty of new work into it for the episode. We really do have some excellent mappers around here, but not the sort that are only out for themselves. The best mapper I know is probably Nicadeamas, and he's probably helped just about everyone on this site with whatever projects they've been working on. As for CS:S stuff, I think TopHATTwaffle is your man. His site is loaded with CS:S tutorials.

Again, welcome. Hope you enjoy your stay.

TopHatt and Vecima said it well, we're happy to help. I would say we've got just about all the bases covered except modeling, animation, and advanced coding heheh.

So stick around, post some questions, or just something cool you found. :t3cool:

I'm used to teaching people, trust me, I'm not new to the rodeo. Just make a thread if you have a question, or drop me a line on steam.

Haha, allright, sometime this weekend, thursday, probably going to be friday I'll make one. I have to start mapping again to start getting questions out. I do have on on my mind already, but it can wait. I'm glad though Vecima from what you said about not standing for bashing, as it really is the least welcoming thing someone can do, it reflects badly. It's also very pompous. Well thanks everyone.
