Hey

Hey I am starkk...I have been mapping for about a year and half, mostly in Call of Duty Series. Because my passion in mapping is making SP maps I have become very unhappy in cod because sp takes countless hours of long, boring, frustrating, pointless, stupid, suicidal, wanna blow my head off, scripting. So I decided to find something that didnt take any scripting and the source engine is my answer. Back when I was first picking a game to map for I found nicadeamas somewhere and he helped me a bit....when I stupidly picked call of duty to map for I kinda lost contact with him for like a year and a half. About two weeks ago I came back to source and found mapping for the hl2 engine was COMPLETE bliss. Because nicadeamas was still on my steam friends list and I knew he was a very talented and EXTREMELY knowledgeable mapper I have been pestering him and picking his brain asking all sorts of questions for the project I am currently working on. I cant thank him enough and man I cant tell you, source engine is FREAKING AMAZING. Scripted sequences that would take like 200 lines of code (exaggerating a tiny bit) in cod take only needing to understand what you need to do in source. Its sooooooo freaking rewarding. Nicadeamas has kinda hinted that I should start posting on this forum and you guys seem like a great community.

Ill post some WIP of my current project soon.

Im part of that type 3 steam group but if you want to add me to steam my steam id is rabidsqurl....if you have xfire xfire = rabbidsquirrel2

Re: Hey

Hello there.

I've always liked mapping for Source, as well.

Re: Hey

Hey starkk.

I don't know exactly, but I installed the COD4 SDK once,
I think it was COD's own version of radient.
I played with the SDK a little, but something told me to let it go.

Re: Hey

CoD's engine essentially started as the Quake 3 engine, but quickly was improved upon and changed drastically by Infinity Ward for all the heavy scripting and effects as well as the plentiful enemy combatants. I must say their tech is very impressive, but I have no idea how to work the CoD2 Radiant editor. I have it. I just have no idea how it works.

Of course, I can at least open it. My Doom 3 editor download must be missing something, cuz I have no idea how to run the SDK for it.

Re: Hey

welcome back to source, starkk

I'm one of those "little bit of everything" modders, but scripting is my strong point in hammer, so if you find yourself up against a wall on something feel free to ask.

Re: Hey

Kenny if you ever want help on learning radiant just ask me. I know the editor fluently. cod4 and cod2 editor are basicly the same sept in cod4 lighting is very much improved and you can get the grid to go smaller.
