Re: hr_vacant

I finally got around to playing the maps. I downloaded them a while ago, but haven't touched HL2 or anything mod related in a couple weeks.

It was pretty good.

Anyway, here is some criticism: (please don't take this as insult or anything, I'm trying to be constructive)

The biggest thing that stuck out to me is that none of the areas felt like real places. maybe the beginning and the first couple rooms or something, but not much else. Even those really need more detail to stand out as a believable place. Since some people seem to have died there, maybe make it look like they at one time were alive there too. Open up your map in hammer, and pretend to be one of those bodies before they died - occupy the space, and leave some mark on it. Try to do it in a mundane fashion too... like maybe that's where they worked so they spilled some coffee, and left some trash on their desk or something... I got the impression this is supposed to be an ordinary building that something horrible happened in (or is happening in), so show some signs that ordinary things happened there too, before everyone turned into bodies.
The hallways are very cramped, but I think that's what you were going for. It worked well, but it had the problem of making it seem not like a real place, but video game corridors. Look at some real floor plans for the places you're trying to re-create. That will help immensely.

Aside from that the place had a nice feel. I certain felt the heavy FEAR influence.

There are some obvious things as you said, but I won't go into those. one technical issue: the first map didn't load into the second, but I was playing the game in my mod, not in ep2 or gm, so that may have been why.

Re: hr_vacant

Finally somone brings up the lack of realistic rooms and layout. Your the first to notice :P

You make a very important point though, and the floor plans tip will certainly help alot. And the bodies tip, I never thought of it that way. But now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense! Thanks alot of the C&C and Ill definatley use it for my future maps!
