Re: Something I noticed...

I haven't played them either. :( My rig is too slow I think. I can play HL2 and Ep1 OK, but Ep1 stutters sometimes.

My rig (aging as it is):

AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1Ghz
512Mb RAM
WinXP SP2
Nvidia Geforce FX5200

Yes that's right...I need a new gaming rig badly! My paycheck doesn't seem to think I do though... :(

Well, jsut slowly and stedaly save up.

About 500$ will get you a dual core extreem, 1 - 2 GB good ram, Top of the line video card, cheap case, 120GB hard drive, dvd rom, and a motherbord to mount it all on.

Maybe 2 or 3 months from now you will be posting with a nice computer.

It might be a bit longer than that, but hopefully in the not too distant future I can use some money from my tax return to get me a new system. I could build my new system myself (I did my last one), but I'm tempted to be lazy and have it built custom for me...of course that will increase the price, so I don't know which I'll actually end up doing.

yeah i had some aspirations to map for those games, and i probably will some time in the future, but for now BOP is taking all of my steam. The new sdk is actually slowing me down though... I haven't worked out all of the kinks of getting hammer running with the new sdk... I'd rather use the new version than revert to the ep1 version. we'll see...

ahh tax returns, i forgot about those. It's a shame they don't come just before the holiday season. then i could afford some gifts for others. :t3lol:

i had a laptop custom built for me once (my last computer). while i liked it, and i did get a decent deal, i can't help but wonder if i (a college student at the time, getting my first modern pc) knew more about hardware and computers than the company's "tech specialist". when the laptop arrived it had 768K of ram rather than 1Gb. That is: it had one correct stick of ram. a 512Mb stick (pc3200). and one incorrect, a 256Mb stick (for some reason it was pc2700). they had me take the ram out and mail it back to them, at which point they mailed me the replacement. it was a 512Mb stick of pc2700 ram. they screwed up yet again! at this point i couldn't help but wonder if they figured i wouldn't notice or if it was truly a mistake i finally eventually got the whole thing ironed out, after about a month without the proper amount of memory.

for that reason i recommend building yourself. my current PC was entirely ordered from newegg.com. everything arrived at my house in 2 days, and i put it together with a friend that night. At any rate, if i had any old pc parts that i thought would help you, i'd be inclined to donate them, but unfortunately I only have what's in my PC.
