From the game, to the desklight.

.
So... My brother can build a 3rd party program that turns a light on. Presumably he can build a 3rd party program that does something like read a word doc, and based on what it says, turns the desk light on.
So that half isn't the problem.

The problem half, is getting from a game-event, to the notepad/to the 3rd party program.
For example;
1. The player pushes a button.
2. The button causes a point_servercommand to post a command to the console.
3.
4.
5. The 3rd party program turns the light on.

I need help with step 3 and 4.
I would like it to say
'3. The console edits a script file. (txt file)'
'4. The 3rd party program reads the change.'
5. The 3rd party program turns the light on.

Any idea's?

no Idea im struggling just to copy a simple arduino thread, last attempt I blew a couple of resistors
http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index. ... e-project/

had an idea, could the point server command have a hidden text file it stores data in, or would it be just in ram?
or could you use a screen monitoring program that could read the text? and then translate it to your io card

Dang daz, that arduino thread looks super complicated. I'm sure it would be awesome once it worked though. Thats the thing my brother and his friend Micah are good at. But I'm sure they would have to invest a bit of time to understand what all is going on with that thread.

My brothers friend has had some progress with the console bit, already he's got a light on his desk that flashes when the player gets hurt. I think he was working on going the other way arund too. like a button on his desk that hurts the player.
So the steps now look like.

1. The player pushes a button.
2. The button causes a point_servercommand to post a command to the console.
3. "program_awesome_028" reads the console (Program is nested in the console so info is stored in ram.)
4. "program_awesome_028" Posts a command to "chip"
5. "Chip" accepts command and basically flips a relay that causes 'blah' to happen in the real world. ('Chip' is like a arduino.)

So, Having progress on it now.

Re: From the game, to the desklight.

sounds simple now :)

Getting a bit matrixy.

the other way couldn't he just use a rcon server command and a macro

What is an rcon server command?

I'll suggest it to my friend see what he thinks, he might know what it is.

Wow... That was a quick year.
Well, the project was really exciting for about three months.
Sadly the project didn't go anywhere. My brother and friend played around with the idea but that's about all that happened.

What have you been up to?

Re: From the game, to the desklight.

just work, and college. bought a 3d printer not finished it yet tho.

plan to try and 3d print a RC plane.
and a train.
its the resin type, with a laser.

had a go on solidworks and decided I must have it. just a little too expensive £4k, so will learn sketchup first.

on the railway, still working with arduinos and making inferred sensors. for the shuttle.
got a few other projects for the arduino as well.
will send some pictures soon.

you doing anything?
