State of the Union... or, uhh... community
I felt now would be a good time to announce (to those of you who don't already know about them) a few things.
The Type 3 Civilization is (conceptually at this point) a community site integrated with this forum that will allow people to share content, be it thoughts, opinions, images, tutorials, models, maps, mods, or full blown games. You will be able to create groups and teams and coordinate on things like mod projects, or plan clan matches. While being focused on game creation, this isn't something that's going to be limited to Source. Any content (within appropriate rules) involved in game creation will be welcome. I'm hoping for this to wind up being a valuable resource to modders and potentially other game developers as well. I'll be starting work on some of the basic features involved very soon.
Another item in the pipeline for modders here at Type 3 is access to Subversion repositories. For any of you who don't know, repositories allow multiple users to share a project by having all of the up-to-date files stored in a common web space. This reduces (or eliminates) all of the emailing and other tedious work to ensure everyone has the latest resources. repositories will also be available for mappers or modelers who just want to keep tabs on their work, or keep multiple beta versions of their work handy during development. The repositories will be available much sooner than the Civilization, but eventually they will be assumed. You will all be assumed! er... uhh... moving on.
It doesn't affect the community much, but I made some changes to the main Type 3 site's navigation. isn't it pretty now? let me know what you think!
last, but by no means least, I also wanted to especially thank Nicadeamas, who in addition to helping us all in some way or another, has generously stepped up to assume some of the cost involved in keeping this community going. thanks, bro.
now is your chance. If you have the time and resources, consider making a small donation to Type 3. We are not looking for profit. This is merely to help offset the cost of hosting, and it's completely optional. Donations will be disabled before the total community contribution reaches the total cost of hosting. Everything I've mentioned above will be available to everyone regardless of their contribution. You have the option to remain anonymous, or if you wish to have your profile indicate that you have provided support.
Thanks Everyone! Here's hoping for a great 5 years to come, and many more beyond!
peace to all,
vecima
