State of the Union... or, uhh... community

Well, folks, we are now sailing on our new hosting service, Dreamhost. Here's hoping for smooth waters. Hosting and domain are paid in full for the next 5 years. Thanks for your patience over the past couple weeks.

I felt now would be a good time to announce (to those of you who don't already know about them) a few things.

The Type 3 Civilization is (conceptually at this point) a community site integrated with this forum that will allow people to share content, be it thoughts, opinions, images, tutorials, models, maps, mods, or full blown games. You will be able to create groups and teams and coordinate on things like mod projects, or plan clan matches. While being focused on game creation, this isn't something that's going to be limited to Source. Any content (within appropriate rules) involved in game creation will be welcome. I'm hoping for this to wind up being a valuable resource to modders and potentially other game developers as well. I'll be starting work on some of the basic features involved very soon.

Another item in the pipeline for modders here at Type 3 is access to Subversion repositories. For any of you who don't know, repositories allow multiple users to share a project by having all of the up-to-date files stored in a common web space. This reduces (or eliminates) all of the emailing and other tedious work to ensure everyone has the latest resources. repositories will also be available for mappers or modelers who just want to keep tabs on their work, or keep multiple beta versions of their work handy during development. The repositories will be available much sooner than the Civilization, but eventually they will be assumed. You will all be assumed! er... uhh... moving on.

It doesn't affect the community much, but I made some changes to the main Type 3 site's navigation. isn't it pretty now? let me know what you think! ;)

last, but by no means least, I also wanted to especially thank Nicadeamas, who in addition to helping us all in some way or another, has generously stepped up to assume some of the cost involved in keeping this community going. thanks, bro.

The following is no longer applicable. The Type 3 Website is now run by Type 3 Studios, LLC and as such we are no longer accepting donations.
now is your chance. If you have the time and resources, consider making a small donation to Type 3. We are not looking for profit. This is merely to help offset the cost of hosting, and it's completely optional. Donations will be disabled before the total community contribution reaches the total cost of hosting. Everything I've mentioned above will be available to everyone regardless of their contribution. You have the option to remain anonymous, or if you wish to have your profile indicate that you have provided support.
[donate link removed]

Thanks Everyone! Here's hoping for a great 5 years to come, and many more beyond!

peace to all,
vecima

I'm new here so i dont know how it looked before but i think it looks really nice i think the site could use a slightly more diverse color scheme but overall i think it does look nice but its alot of dark gray colors maybe some blues and greens or something anyway i do like the navigation very nice to get around. I also do not really know how to map i got my hammer editor and about 4 years ago and never use it and the other day i figured i would try to learn how to map so if anyeone would like to help me sometime with some of the basics im a very fast learner so it wouldnt take too much time with the basics then i could tinker around with it for a while and come back with any questions. Nicadeamas i realize looking at all the replys and things you do that you seem like a busy guy but you also seem like one of the most knowledable and i was hoping you would be willing. My email is starkindustry@live.com i check it farely often. Well so far i do like this site and the people involed all seem very mature and kind. Im hoping this kindness will extend to helping me learn to map (ha ha ha).

Well now I'm confused, aren't you already on my steam friends list.. Or are you starks friend that I talked to a few days ago?

Anyway welcome to the forums, I added you on msn, but don't let that stop you from posting here. I'm not the only one who knows stuff. :t3biggrin:

Im surprised it isnt busier here, your site was one of the top 10 that showed up when I googled something like "Modding sites" (I dont remember exactly what I put in there)

Not that it matters really, of course. You all seem very mature so far and thats rare anymore. Quality over quantity right? :t3biggrin:

glad to hear you were able to find us. activity sort of comes in waves around here. I think that'll change at some point, just not sure when that might be.
