OK, So I made and empty folder.

What goes in it?

Can you have one basic script file,

then all your materials and stuff.
IOWs pushing all the mess aside.
What's the basic skeleton of it all.

'Good ram scripts around here.'

you made an empty folder for what? source code?

If you're programming for Source you don't need to make any folders, just do the "create a mod" and it's all laid out for you.

Common complaint. :t3blackninja:
Because I use both hemispheres.

List how it goes then in the hierarchy,

I trying to connect it all like an electrical system, you know like the Brain.
I learn backwards if you don't know yet.

I guess the engine would be first.
So you start the engine which is running then you get all you GUI stuff up,
then the controls work, then you turn the lights on, and hit play. But after you hit play a different system takes premise.

So I guess I want to know more about how to make an engine.

I may help you to know that I like to take stuff apart to see how it works then put it back together.

So your end goal is to make a game engine? 3d engine? physics engine? Or just a mod for source?

Maybe I'm still not clear on where you're headed. Maybe I'm just only using half my brain :P

Re: OK, So I made and empty folder.

I speak Spector, but not fluently.

If you want to make a game engine, then you probably want a few basic things:

-ability to spatially relate distances in 2d or 3d.
-lighting (i wouldn't even know where to start, but Google would be a good bet)
-collision detection (you would want proper physics eventually but basic collision would be a good starting point)
-ability to load models (interpret 3d meshes in some format)

i think that would be the basic foundation of an engine, though i've never made one myself. maybe someone else with more experience can clarify a little more.

If you're looking to do Source Engine coding (not to be confused with engine source code :t3eek: ), say so, and we'll go from there :t3lol:

Re: OK, So I made and empty folder.

;) .

Defiantly a delay between my brain and the keyboard.
Funny, I don't think I search for the keys as much anymore.
But I do know without looking where up,down, left, right, are.
Ah Its old old cool trick no one ever gets to see.
The way my neurological paths run.
You know the short films were something that takes months
to build, is time lapsed into 2 minutes?
My brain used to work like that,
but not so much anymore ;). Huh?, yep.

Anyways.
-A complex text script defining distances between objects.
-a ray tracing text script, uhm that traces light rays.
-I know if I've been hit. With parameters the same or greater than the distance object script.
-a script file to define movement, textures, shading, and other things that move or don't move.

Am I right.?

Looks cool to me.
Then there is also the Blender game engine. It being freeware, it might be a good idea to use it as your base then build off of it.
Blender isn't just a modeling program, it's got tons of extras added in. Game engine, film editing system, image making (I think), sound editing (I think), physics engine (not the best but it works.), and stuff to record. (Then probably more I don't know about.)

Re: OK, So I made and empty folder.

Thanks, Nic but I trying to learn how a game engine
works, and the structure of it all.

There's 200+ game engines.

If I knew programming, I don't think it would be to complicated to make a crap game engine for fun. (?)
