How hard would it be to take NPC_Zombie and make NPC_Zombie_1?
Point being you can give NPC_Zombie_1 black pants and NPC_Zombie still has blue pants, but they are both stay normal zombies.

Sounds more like a job for skins. Wonder how the Rebel faces are handled...

you could decompile the model, edit the .qc to include your new skin, and recompile. you wouldn't even need a new model or npc. then you would be able to choose a skin for your zombie (if you wanted to see it in hammer it may require a .fgd edit, though maybe not). If you went this way, I would advise to do at least a few skins before you recompile the model.

Does anyone know or feel up to decompileing / recompileing models for me so I can make up extra skins for them?
So far the only one on my list is the Zombie. Maybe later on (Like 3 months) some citizens, combine, or headcrabs.

mmmmm.. I kinda figured the question would have more to do with programming sense your cloning code.
But then I guess sense this has turned into multiple skins rather then cloning then this is the perfect place for it. :t3holiday:

even though the .qc are sort of like code, they are only used for modelling, so i figured it was best to put it here.
