Menu sounds

So I extracted some sounds from a gcf to replace the menu sounds with, i named them how the sounds are named in the source sounds gcf. (the ones where u rollover or click an option on the menu). That worked but then Dan told me it was illegal to do that. So i got some free sounds effects opff a website and named them as they are supposed to be name (buttonclick, buttonclickrelease, buttonrollover) and they are all the correct format (wav). This time for some reason, it doesnt work and the sounds are as they are normally.

Im not sure whats wrong, ive tried looking for the text file that referes to them but cant find it. Not even game_sounds_ui.txt is the correct one.

Any ideas anyone?

Re: Menu sounds

the first thing you tried would only be illegal if the sounds were from a different game.

the only thing i can think of is to check the bit rate of the valve sounds against the ones you downloaded.

Re: Menu sounds

Joff figured my files were in stereo and the ones from the source sounds gcf were in mono so i changed mine to mono and they still dont work. Both are now 705kbps when i go properties -> details on the files...

Re: Menu sounds

What sounds do play on the buttons? Does it play the default HL2, or just none?? Did you make sure your sounds are in the sounds/UI/ folder?

Here's the properties of my button sounds, make sure yours are the same:
Bit Rate: 705 kbps
Audio sample rate: 16bit
channels: 1 - mono
Audio sample rate 44 KHZ

Re: Menu sounds

The only way is to either code it or overwrite the original sounds with a silent sound. So when it's played, it's silent... I don't know tbh if you can even code it actually, all that stuff is in the engine code, not the SDK.

Re: Menu sounds

I dunno...

But i tried before by extracting some sounds from a gcf and renaming them so they had the correct names to be menu sounds and they worked fine (even though that was illegal) So i dont understand why my sounds dont work when i do the same thing.
